Welcoming Our New Executive Director, David McGlinchey

From the Board of Directors

Dear Members,

We are thrilled to announce that the Board has selected David McGlinchey as the next Executive Director of the Massachusetts Rivers Alliance. Dave brings exceptional communication and relationship-building skills, deep experience in climate science, and a passion for river protection that inspired us. Most recently, he spent nearly a decade at the Woodwell Climate Research Center (formerly the Woods Hole Research Center) on Cape Cod, where he led government relations and policy efforts focused on climate risk, resilience, and natural climate solutions. His work included developing policy recommendations for national, regional, and local governments, including collaborating closely with communities and decision-makers across Massachusetts. He earned his undergraduate degree from Wake Forest University and his J.D. from Suffolk University Law School. We believe he is the right leader to guide Mass Rivers into its next chapter. Dave will begin his new role on January 5.

Over the last 6 months, the Board, with guidance and support from Eos Transition Partners, embarked on a broad and targeted search for our next Executive Director. We want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who participated in this transition—our dedicated Search Committee, Eos Transition Partners, Mass Rivers staff, and the many members and stakeholders who shared their insights. Your thoughtful engagement ensured a thorough and inclusive process, and we are proud of the outcome. Thank you for your ongoing support and commitment to our rivers. Please join us in congratulating Dave (davemcglinchey@massriversalliance.org) and expressing gratitude to our outgoing executive director, Julia Blatt, for her years of service. Together, we look forward to continuing our mission of protecting and restoring rivers across the Commonwealth, with renewed energy and vision for the future.

Wishing you all a healthy, happy holiday season!
