More Funding for State Environmental Agencies in 2021

Writer's picture: Anna RenkertAnna Renkert

Great new on the state budget (again)!

The state agencies that protect and restore the Commonwealth’s natural resources entered the new year with increased funding for this critically important work. This is especially important as we’ve turned to local, open spaces more than ever for recreation and peace of mind. We wish to thank the state legislature for overriding Governor Baker’s vetoes on budget increases for the Department of Environmental Protection, the Division of Ecological Restoration, and the Department of Conservation and Recreation.

Thank you to the legislative champions who ensured environmental protection remained a statewide priority in 2021, especially budget conference committee members Senator Michael Rodrigues, Senator Cindy Friedman, Senator Patrick O’Connor, Representative Aaron Michlewitz, Representative Denise Garlick, and Representative Todd Smola.

Thank you to our individual members who contacted their legislators to advocate for these agencies - your efforts made a difference!

Again, thank you for helping us protect our rivers. Here’s to a safe, healthy new year!
